Losing a loved one is often the most shocking and difficult thing we will ever have to deal with. Unfortunately it also a time when we are expected to make decisions regarding Funeral arrangements, a subject which thankfully most of us have very little experience of.
The questions we are most frequently asked in the first hours and days following a bereavement are detailed below to assist you.
All of these subjects can be discussed with you in detail at an arrangement meeting at our Funeral Home or in the comfort of your own home, at your convenience.
"At the time your family needs the greatest level of support and guidance our family will be there for you."
Often people will have expressed their preference when it comes to burial or cremation, but in the absence of a clear decision, we can guide you through making the right decision for your family. We can guide you through our list of local facilities available to you for both burial and cremation services, as well as alternative forms of Funeral service and facilities further afield.
Leicestershire has three ‘Green’ or Natural Burial grounds, where your loved one can be returned to nature. These are at Prestwold, near Loughborough, at Scraptoft or at the award winning ‘Willows’ Natural Burial Ground at South Croxton, near Queniborough.
We believe that the Funeral service should be as unique as the individual and be in a format that makes your family and friends as comfortable as possible. We will work with you to make your vision reality, from a large traditional service to an intimate family gathering or even no service at all. Our experience means that we can arrange any request, however unusual.
You can choose from a range of transport options to reflect the lifestyle and personality of your loved one. Some of the options we provide include motorcycle hearses, vintage lorries, Land Rovers, VW camper vans, white funeral vehicles and horse drawn carriages. We have also arranged for diggers, tractors and HGV lorries.
We have brochures available to view in our offices and can arrange for all of the flowers to be ordered for the funeral. However, if you and your family would prefer to arrange your own floral tributes, we will happily help you arrange this. Our dedicated florist is also delighted to provide any bespoke tribute.
We understand and can cater for the cultural requirements of all our families and can effectively abide by the expectations of the many religious beliefs practised in Leicestershire.
We are also familiar with the rites and rituals of lesser practiced beliefs such as Druidism.
We will assist you with the composition and placing of obituary notices in the Leicester Mercury or other regional or national publications.
We will accept charitable donations in lieu of flowers and will open a donations file and administrate the collection of donations sent or given to us in memory of your loved one. We will keep a donation file open for one month after the funeral day and will always provide you with a comprehensive list of those who donated.
The coffins and caskets in our standard brochure range are manufactured from natural wood veneered chipboard, veneered MDF, and solid oak and mahogany.
In addition to this standard range of coffins, we can offer a range of eco-friendly coffins in many variations including willow or even wool. The funeral director will be happy to guide you through what is available and even offer a bespoke service for those wishing to create a unique design
We actively encourage the bereaved to visit their loved one, should they wish to do so. The preparation of the deceased for the funeral is inclusive in our professional fee. We will do all we can to ensure that the deceased is presented to your family in the best possible light.
We also encourage the family to provide an outfit for the deceased to be dressed in, to bring in any cosmetics they wish to be used and to provide a photograph to assist with hair styling. We always try to provide qualified, same gender staff to care for your loved one.
If you wish to care for your loved one yourself or to assist with this, we are more than happy to accommodate your wishes.
We are able to arrange printed order of services for the funeral if you wish. We will liaise with the person taking the service and will need guidance from you in regards to how many will be required. There are many options available and we can show you some examples of what can be produced.
